Nature Noticing in Winter

Sometimes seeing wildlife is just a matter of putting nature on the calendar. During the month of December, come to the Kathleen Clay Branch
and pick up a winter wildlife calendar pack. The pack provides tips for seeing and tracking your wildlife sightings throughout the season. 

Holiday Swaps: Lunch and Learn
Friday, December 3rd, 12 – 1 pm
Do you want to reduce your spending, increase your joy, and have a positive impact on the environment?
Hear ideas for entertaining, meals, gift giving, and decorations that are waste-less options.
Masey DeMoss, Recycling Educator in a Zoom program, will share some simple swaps in your holiday planning to make them more enjoyable for you and family and friends.  

Vegan Winter Comfort Food
Monday, December 6, 7 – 8:30 pm

Get cozy in your kitchen and join us for cooking vegan soups and stews.
Cynteah Giddings is a local vegan recipe creator, personal chef, and food blogger based in Greensboro. 
The recipe she will share will have a Caribbean and Afro-Cuban flavor. 
Sena Crutchley, UNCG professor and member of UNCG’s Sustainability Council will share another flavorful recipe.
We will provide the recipes and you can cook with us through a Zoom demonstration.   

Green Reads: Settled in the Wild
Friday, December 10, 12 -1 pm

Join us for a discussion of the book, Settled in the Wild: Notes from the Edge of Town by Susan Hand Shetterly.
Enjoy a great story about the wildness surrounding Shetterly’s home in rural Maine.
If you enjoy the writings of Aldo Leopold, Annie Dillard or David Haskell, you’ll enjoy her deep observations.
The book is available through NC LIVE, Homegrown Collections and few copies are available at the branch.

Winter is a great time for reflecting and centering. During the month of February, pick up a small journal from Kathleen Clay Branch with mindfulness walking tips.
Then dress in layers to enjoy a reflective walk in Price Park.  

Meal Prep Grain Bowls
Wednesday, January 12, 7 – 8:30 pm

Join Amanda Sanson, in a Zoom cooking demo of meat-less, gluten-free, dairy-free, low sugar grain bowls.
She will demonstrate how to meal prep these bowls for the week. This meal prep will help you save money and time, reduce food waste, and aid you in eating healthier.

Outdoor Adventurers of Color with Derick Lugo
Monday, January 24, 7 – 8 pm

Join us for a Zoom discussion by Derick Lugo, writer, story teller, blogger and hiker.
Lugo, a Brooklyn-born, New York city dweller with no hiking or camping experience decided to hike the Appalachian Trail.
The Unlikely Thru-Hiker: An Appalachian Trail Journey is his story of a young black man demonstrating grit and humor as he discovers the natural world
of the trail through his journey.
