Here is the story behind the popular 'Did you know...' cards from earlier this semester, created by Liane Elias and Jenny Dale.
Jenny wanted something for the table that the Reference Department staffed during the Student Library Advisory Council's Know Your Libraries event, something that they could give away that might be interesting. She had the idea for trivia cards and Liane thought images might make them extra eye-catching. They decided to see what the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives had on Flickr. They picked out a couple of pictures and brainstormed on some trivia and voila! :)
There were nine cards in the "series," and either for the images or for the trivia, the two that seemed to be the most popular were one featuring some girls using the card catalog with "Did you know...that there's a librarian for every subject area at UNCG?" on the back, and the other was an image of the icy tree in front of Jackson and the trivia caption "Did you know...that Jackson Library is home to a famous 33-year-old doughnut?" As they kept tabs on how many cards were being taken from the desk in the week following the event, those two were the most scarce.
